Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have twice tried to access the advanced settings on this printer using HP Smart and it keeps asking for the PIN code but won't access the setting. If I use the web printer interface, I can access the advanced settings. Why doesn't the HP Smart app work as it should to access advanced settings?

Thanks!

The underlying cause of the odd behavior might be related to the way your printer and computer are connected and / or communicating on the network.

HP Smart can be fussy about the interchange that is necessary to jump from within the application over to the printer's EWS.   Said another way:  The hand-off from the application to the Embedded Web Server protocol is not always clean.  Maybe too slow, maybe dropped due to resource load, maybe doesn't keep track of the processes.  ??  Those are guesses and not meant to be excuses.  "Sure, should work."

If you are interested in pursuing, perhaps start with the checkpoints included later in this message.

  •  Assign the printer its own manual / static IP address
  • If your printer supports it, dump the Wireless and use Ethernet
  • Reduce the load on your computer.  Said another way, If you are playing games or pushing the system hard, close some of the browsers / programs / applications running.

Next,

  • If you can get it, perhaps consider moving over the the HP App.

The HP App is the replacement for HP Smart -- new application is being released by region (or other criteria -- no one has actually said who gets what and when).

HP App is not smarter but some of the sign-in and connection protocols appear to be handled differently.  (Another guess -- I'm not HP and I don't have access to the code.)

If true, the transition from the HP App to EWS from within the application might be successful more often than now.

For now, at least, the HP App and the HP Smart application can co-exist -- or you can at least "go back" to what is familiar.  At some point, I expect that the HP Smart will no longer be available from the Microsoft Store.

If the HP App shows up in the link, optionally download and install the HP App.

Strange! If you hadn't put a link to the HP app in your message, I could not have found it in the Microsoft store. I did a search for it from the home page of the store app and the HP app never showed. But from your link to the web version of the store, I was able to switch to HP app in the store app to download and install it. Go figure.

Yeah, it's not clear to me how the release is structured.

The source for the app is legitimate if a little convoluted at the moment.

Things will clear up as the HP App is more fully distributed, I think.

All guesses --

For awhile, at least, we will have access to both HP Smart and HP App.

The Print and Scan Tiles are (behave) nearly identical to HP Smart.

Some of the (other) menus -- for example, Diagnostics and Get Help -- are similar to similar categories in HP Smart but might be dressed in a different display or font.

The only point of this exercise is to offer (and test) the HP App's method to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) from within the Application.

Depending on your setup (network), the new HP App might more consistently successful when switching to / back-from EWS without resorting to opening your browser.

None of the switches to transfer control to outside the application itself are super fast -- some drag quite a bit and require patience.  Perhaps that will improve -- the HP App for Windows is brand new.
