HP Envy 5034 all in one printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP smart app shows the printer status (on or off line), ink levels & various options buttons (scan, print, get supplies, help, etc). On the right hand side of the screen is a small greyed out printer picture which when clicked slides across to the left hand side of the screen. The printer status then changes to off line with no ink levels & says 'Photosmart All-in-One-Printer Scanner Copie'. I accidently did this & could not use any printer functions. By clicking the picture now on the left hand side it restores back to right hand side & all is back to normal. Can't find any info on this. What is it? Any ideas appreciated.

That grayed out printer is old printer which is not in use.

You ca remove it from HP smart app with below steps:

  • Open HP Smart and then click the Printer icon in the left bar.
  • Click on select a Different Printer, then click the Remove link on the right
  • Press the X mark of the unwanted printer tile to remove it and click on done.

I hope that helps.

Welcome to HP support community.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  2. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  3. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  4. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  5. Try to print.

Assign manual IP address and that should fix the issue.

On the printer control panel display, from the Home screen, touch ( Setup ), touch Tools, and then touch Network configuration Report.

Setting a Static IP Address

Once you know your printer’s IP address, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:

HP Printer Static IP Address

  1. Run your Web browser.
  2. In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Under Connections, click Wireless.
  5. Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
  6. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
  7. Click Apply.

Hi sandytechy20,
Thanks for reply. Don’t know that there is anything to fix as all functions on the HP Envy 5034 are working OK. Just would like to know what the greyed out printer symbol on the right-hand side of the HP Smart app dashboard is used for as I had problems after accidently clicking on it. Have checked and found that it is normally there, but why? What does it do?

Hi Mookycat,

The HP Smart status should look like this, not greyedout.

Thanks sandytechy20, you informed me what it was & pointed me in the right direction & all ok now.
Slightly different procedure to remove old printer from HP smart app –
1. Click on old (greyed out) printer. This moves it to centre of dashboard & makes it the active printer. The new HP Envy 5034 slides to the left of dashboard (now greyed out).
2. Click on old printer in centre of dashboard. This gives an information menu bar on left hand side.
3. At the bottom of the menu bar select ‘Manage/Forget This Printer’
4. Confirm ‘Forget This Printer’ in confirmation box.
5. Done – old printer removed from app.
Appreciate your help
Cheers
