HP Smart asks me to "sign in" or "create account" in order to scan. Attempting both of those fails, so scanning is inoperative. Have been trying to scan a document for the last two hours. All attempts to get hp support chat fail. Nothing wrong with the network, the printer is connected to it just fine. Attempts to sign in just get the endless circle symbol. I already have a HP account, so don't need to create another one (that failed anyway). Up to date drivers.

Hi,
Please go to System Preferences> General

make sure that Safari is your default browser and then restart the Mac.

Now try launching HP Smart, login and check for any difference.

I already had Safari selected as default browser. I re started my MacBook, and that resolved the issue. The HP Smart did ask the same annoying "sign in" or "create account" pop up, and "sign in" does not work (continuous circle symbol), but the "create account" (I already have a HP account!!!!!) took me to a login where I could input my username and password, which then enabled scanning again. This is ridiculous, someone there does not fully test out what changes they have made.

Very dissatisfied with this, but at least scanning was restored.

Re-start your computer. That worked for me.
