Scanning is extremely slow and laborious enough as it is, but I was gutted that half way thru scanning a 160 page bound document, HP Smart software crashed out.  I had not saved as I had wanted to store it all in one PDF.  Are individual scans cached anywhere?  What is the best way to achieve scanning (other than finding better hardware/software)?  Is there a limit of number of consecutive scans that I may have reached?  I was scanning greyscale 600 DPI.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

Unfortunately, the scan are not cached anywhere. And there is no limit for scanning.

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16 and try connecting the Printer to a wall outlet directly.

Thanks for response and suggestions.  I had just done firmware update and the printer is connected by ethernet.  My lesson learnt is the scanner is fine for scanning one or 2 pages.  It is too slow to scan more and I will instead opt to use a higher speed and more reliable photocopier scanner.

I understand. Does the same happen on copies too?

I haven't tried with copies and likely will not use the printer for a large copy run.  Scanning is just too slow.

We need to if this happens with copies too to determine if it's a hardware issue.

As mentioned earlier, we need to know if this happens with copies too to determine if it's a hardware issue.

Let us know 🙂
