HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer

For a number of years now, I've used desktop software (identified as HP Scan  HP Pro 9010 series (NET), referred to else where as the full feature software, or full driver printer software) specifically downloaded after purchasing my last two 9010 series printer/scanners.  Works fine, a little slow to load, but does what it was supposed to--until it didn't.  After some back forth with support (after wasting time with virtual support), I've been told that the problem is with the software and I should use HP Smart, whatever that is (no suggestion that the full feature software was going to be fixed but that's a separate problem I guess).  OK, fine, I'm willing to try that.  First problem, apparently you can't permanently select what type of document format you want to save to--I always use pdf searchable, but that apparently isn't the default and no way to select that permanently--you need to select it every time.  So, I have a document that I'd like to save, but when I select PDF searchable, I'm told to rotate the document.  No such "rotate" command can be found on any of the menus.  I assume it is there, but it's not obvious where.  One of the advantages of the full feature software is that it pretty much, at least for low volume users, eliminated the need to use FileCenter or Paperport (back in the day when it was the go-to file management program).  My preliminary judgment is that it might be better/easier to bypass HP Smart and go back to FileCenter.  I guess we'll see.  HP could make this all a little easier for its customers.
