Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

The warranty on my printer expired. Now the HP Smart app does not recognize it (not compatible). Is this normal? The printer has scanned OK before using HP Smart. Is this how HP requires you to buy a new printer?

@Molojo, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I’m sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP ENVY 5055 and the HP Smart app.

To clarify: the expiration of your printer’s warranty does not disable or limit functionality, including compatibility with the HP Smart app. Warranty expiration simply means the device is no longer eligible for free repairs or replacements under the manufacturer’s warranty—it should not impact usability.

Try reinstalling your printer manually:

Remove your printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

Go to HP’s official support page for the ENVY 5055 and download the Full Feature Software and Drivers (not just HP Smart).

Install that software—it often includes tools that let you scan and print without relying on the HP Smart app.

Try using the web interface:

Find its IP address (usually listed on the printer's display or config page).

Open a browser and type that IP address (e.g., http://192.168.1.104).

Some scan and maintenance features can be accessed from there.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
