Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Just trying to scan a simple document on my HP OfficeJet8015e from Mac pro.  Downloaded (again) the HP Smart app, watched video. Each scan is a new look -- sometimes small, sometimes large -- sometimes cut off at the bottom, sometimes duplicated.

When did a simple home scan go from being a 5-min task to an all-morning job? How in the world can you justify selling this to the public?

Hi @bumbumbum100

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

My sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. We'd hate for you to be stuck in a situation like this. Because you matter to us.

Not to worry I'll do everything I can to help get this sorted for you.

Thank you for laying that out so clearly. It’s genuinely exhausting when a basic scan turns into a guessing game of size, crop, and duplication—especially when you’ve followed every setup step and still get unpredictable results.

The HP Smart app on macOS has shown inconsistent behavior with certain OfficeJet models, particularly when auto-crop or preview settings are involved.

Here’s how to bring some sanity back to your scanning workflow:

Step-by-Step Fix for Unreliable Scans on HP Smart (Mac + OfficeJet 8015e)

1. Disable Auto-Crop and Auto-Detect

These features often misinterpret document edges:

  • Open HP Smart
  • Go to Scan > Settings
  • Turn off Auto-Crop, Auto-Detect, and Enhance
  • Manually set the scan area and resolution before each scan

2. Use Flatbed Instead of ADF (if applicable)

If you're scanning from the document feeder:

  • Try placing the document on the flatbed scanner
  • This avoids misfeeds and improves edge detection

3. Scan Using macOS Preview (Alternative Method)

Sometimes native macOS tools outperform HP Smart:

  • Open Preview
  • Go to File > Import from Scanner > HP OfficeJet 8015e
  • Set scan type, resolution, and area manually
  • Save directly to your preferred location

4. Update HP Smart and Printer Firmware

  • Visit the HP OfficeJet 8015e driver page
  • Download the latest firmware and HP Smart version for macOS
  • Install updates and restart both printer and Mac

5. Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

HP Smart includes a built-in repair utility:

  • Open HP Smart
  • Click the printer dropdown in the top menu bar
  • Select Diagnose & Fix
  • Follow the prompts to reset scan settings and resolve software conflicts

Let me know if you’d like help setting up a reliable scan profile or switching to a more predictable workflow. You’ve clearly done everything right—just need the software to meet you halfway.
