HP DeskJet 2734e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My printer won't function.  I have had it for about 6-8 months.  HP Smart shows asleep.  Before today it showed offline.  The power light is on, as is the yellow light next to the information icon.  I have it hardwired to my computer.  I gave up on the internet......

Hi @JoPhoto,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2734e printer is experiencing connectivity issues, which may be why it's showing as "asleep" in HP Smart and is unable to print, scan, or copy. Let's troubleshoot this:

1. Check Connection:

  • Ensure that the USB cable connecting your printer to your computer is securely plugged in at both ends. If the cable is loose, reseat it.
  • Check if there are any visible damages to the cable. If damaged, replace it with a new one.
  • Try using a different USB port on your computer to see if that resolves the issue.

2. Restart Devices:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Shut down your computer.
  • Wait for a few minutes, then plug in and turn on your printer, followed by your computer.
  • Check if the printer status changes in HP Smart.

3. Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can cause connectivity issues.
  • Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download/install the latest drivers for your operating system.

4. Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer.
  • Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and follow the instructions to download and install any available firmware updates.

5. Reset Printer:

  • Perform a power reset on your printer by unplugging it from the power source, waiting for a minute, and then plugging it back in.
  • Check if the printer status changes after the reset.

6. Check Power Saving Settings:

  • Access the printer's settings menu using the control panel or HP Smart app.
  • Ensure that the printer's sleep mode or power-saving features are disabled or adjusted to allow for longer periods of activity.

7. Reinstall HP Smart:

  • If you're using HP Smart to manage your printer, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app on your computer. Sometimes, reinstalling can resolve software-related issues.

8. Check Network Connection (Optional):

  • If you previously had the printer connected to the internet, you may want to check your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection settings to ensure proper connectivity.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
