We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

OfficeJet Pro L7780 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

PC PLATFORM:

  Brand  New HP Omen laptop

      Model #15CE199NR

      Product #4CC49UA#ABA

   OS = Win10 Home (64-bit) ver = 1803,  OS build = 17134.471

PRINTER:

OfficeJet Pro L7780 All-in-One

Model = C8192A

2 ink cartridges are out of ink and all cartridges have long expired

I do NOT use this device for printing. I have 2 LaserJets for that (color + B&W)

PRINTER DRIVER:

Downloaded & Instaledl From HP: OJ_AIO_L7X00_Full_Win_WW_140_408-5.exe

ORIGINALLY:

Laptop originally was connected to my network via WiFi.

Printer connected to my network via Cat-5 cable.

Printer has a static private IP address on the same subnet as my PC

Software would not find printer, no way, no how.

Uninstalled printer driver software

NOW:

Laptop connected to my network via Cat-5 cable.

Printer connected to my network via Cat-5 cable.

Printer has (same) static private IP address

Install software finds my printer & appears to install successfully.

Both OfficeJet Pro Prineter & OfficeJet Pro Fax appear in Devices and Printers (from Control Panel)

HP Solution Center appears to launch OK.

However, when I click the button [Scan Document], nothing happens.

All Solution Center functions continue to work AOK on my old Win-XP PC.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the downloaded driver several times. Still no scan operation starts when I clk the

[Scan Document] button.

If I go into printer properties and select to print a test page, I hear the printer click, but of course I get an error message on the printer's control panel about repacing print cartridges. So there is some communication from PC to printer.

Why doesn't the Solution Center's [Scan Document] launch the scan subroutine?

Thanks for the assist.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can try this 3rd party scanner:

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your prompt post to my problem. HOWEVER....

The fix I am looking for is to get the HP Solution Center to work properly (as intended)

Being redirected to 3rd party software is the equivalent of unwelcomed telemarketing phone calls. I noticed that you didn't disclosed whether or not you get some sort of Finder's Fee or Commission from your referrels.

Hi @TekHead

Spoiler
Being redirected to 3rd party software is the equivalent of unwelcomed telemarketing phone calls. I noticed that you didn't disclosed whether or not you get some sort of Finder's Fee or Commission from your referrels.

We're volunteers here to help solve problems.

The printer is very old, hence we recommend the 3rd party software that may help.

Else, try this, it may or may not work:

HP Scan Extended

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Thanks.

I found the problem and it is caused by HP's universal print driver (UPD)

   OJ_AIO_L7X00_Full_Win_WW_140_408-5.exe

on an HP Omen laptop. (see above platform specs in original post). This same problem also occurred on my other new HP Envy x360 laptop. So the fault does indeed lie with HP!

Since this is a brand new laptop, I decided to do a manufacturer's (HP) OS recovery from  the Recovery Partition's E: drive. Here are the steps I did:

  1. Recovered Windows 10 from recovery drive (E:) to start factory fresh.
  2. Installed OfficeJet 7780 software.
  3. Tested scanning capbility = AOK
  4. Created System Restore Point
  5. Install Universal Printer Driver (UPD) for LJ 4300.
  6. Tested scanning capability. UPD killed the scanning capability for the OfficeJet.
  7. Performed Restore @6 PM from the above System Restore Point (it took ~10 hours! That's another problem.)
  8. Got the below error message when Restore completed ~3 AMRestore Err Msg.JPG

However, when I now tested the OfficeJet Pro 7780's scanning function using the HP Solution Center,

 it now is functional.
