HP officeJet 5255 - Fax “Phone Line In Use”

This question was posted by a previous post in Jan 4, 2020. The companies was the same. This Printer says “Phone Line In use” after one FAX is sent.

After that one dad is sent. If you go to FAX —> You get option “SEND AND RECEIVE” —> then you get an option to “SEND NOW” —> This option does not ask for a Dial number. 

If you want to send another one, you need to unplug the Electrical chord, and after the printer comes back on it gives the options 

FAX —> SEND NOW —> ENTER FAX NUMBER —> SEND FAX

My printer hasn’t the latest version of its software, according to what’s displayed on the screen.

ANOTHER ANNOYING PART ABOUT THIS PRINTER ITS THAT IT SENDS YOU TO SCAN DOCUMENT ON THE MOBILE APP INSTEAD OF USING THE  PAGE FEEDER TO SCAN LARGE DOCUMENTS. 

I NEED AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTIONS ABOVE.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "unable to send a fax and can't scan using the ADF" issue. 

 To better assist you -

1)What device are you using the printer with, a Windows computer, Mac, Android or an iPhone?

2) Do you get any error message when you scan from the printer?

Meanwhile, Let's perform a factory default on fax settings

Go to setup option on the printer---.tools---->restore factory defaults--->yes

Then refer to this document to set up fax - How to Fax
