@LindaP3,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. I’d be glad to help with your printer issue 🙂

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you ensured all the drivers are updated using Windows update.

Do you have Adobe Reader software installed on the computer.

What application are you using to scan to PDF on your PC?

Have you installed the printer full feature printer software on your PC?

Have you tried scanning from a different application?

Please try few steps recommended below.

Check for Windows Updates and complete them all:

Install Windows updates

Update Adobe:
Open Reader or Acrobat.
Choose Help - Check For Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
Once installed, restart you computer.
Try to print the PDF again.

Run the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

This did not work, however,  HP Smart did.   This appeared with one of the downloads.  Pdf is an option and the scan works fine.

thanks
