HP Officejet 8620 photo scan
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Greetings!   Are there instructions, somewhere, about how best to scan photos using the HP Officejet Pro 8620 all in one unit?  I know, a few years ago, that my all in one HP scanner would scan photos, and would recognize and crop accordingly scanned photo prints.  This seems not to be the case with the 8620.    I recognize this unit probably isn't ideal for photo scanning, but surely there is some way to scan several photos at one time, assign file names and save to the appropriate file.  Any suggestions, or a pointer to the appropriate help file, would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Yes, it can do that with auto crop setup. I normally scan 4  10cm x 15 cm (or 4x5) in one go. Please put them on the glass are and try

(a) Double click printer icon on desktop,

(b) Select Scan a document or photo,

(c) Click Advanced settings,

(d) Tick auto crop then Scan.

Regards.

I think this is probably the answer.  Unfortunately, whenever I am not able to tick the autocrop box.  For some reason, it won't recognize the attempt to place the check mark; all other options seems to work fine.  I'm going to check for updates and do a reboot and see if that helps......

So, reboot etc doesn't help.  Here's the deal--at advanced settings, when you select photo, you are unable to check autocrop.  It's impossible to select that command.  On the other hand, when you select document, you can select deskew with no problem.

I wonder if there is another option somewhere that blocks the photo auto crop selection?  None of this, incidentally, is explained anywhere I can find.

Incidentally, various other options seem to work fine.  No obvious reason who you can't select auto crop.

EDIT:  Problem solved.  So, when using the auto crop feature, on the preceding screen, you need to select scan from glass.  If you don't do that, you aren't allowed to select auto crop.

This makes sense, I suppose, but why there isn't a pop up telling you that when you try to incorrectly select auto crop is a mystery.
