HP scan softeare
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear HP,

I have a porblem that i would like to get fixed.

I am using a PDF viewer/editor that is called PDFX-Change Editor (Not Adobe)

Every time I use the HP_SCAN software to scan a document to an PDF file en open it with this PDFX-Change Editor it gives me the following error message (this is in dutch)

Aantekening 2018-12-24 123723.jpg

According to the website of PDF-XChange the issu is known an coused by the HP-SCAN software because it is not adhering to ISO PDF Standard. (Knowledge Base Article:KB504)

I have tryed the following but all result in the same error.

* Re installed HP_SCAN software.

* Tryed different Laptop, W10, 64bit, with same HP_SCAN and PDF-XChange Editor.

Is there a fix for this i can use, other that saving every scanned PDF again with the PDF-XChange Editor?

Best regards,

Otto Jager

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

Try using Adobe Reader and let me know if it works all fine. Also, if you could let us know about the error message in English.

Please get back to us with the Printer name as well.

Thanks 🙂

Hi Betty,

Thank you for your replay.

As I mentioned I don’t have adobe reader, it will work probably just fine as Adobe does not check if the pdf document is according to ISO standards. Also in my PDF editor will display the scanned PDF, you only get an annoying message that there is an problem with the file and you have to resave it again to fix it. If you don’t resave it you will get the same message again the next time you open the pdf.

This is not because of the editor, it is because of the pdf that is created by the HP-Scan software isn’t according to the ISO standards.

I have attached on your request some pictures in the English language. hope is helps

Best regards,

Otto Jager

@Otto_Jager,

It looks like you were interacting with @Betty0610, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.

After reviewing your post, I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.

Let's start off by updating the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website. Alternatively you can also try to update the printer firmware directly from the printer control panel. Once done, restart the computer.

For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to do a hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)  to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

Hi  Jeet_Singh,

Thank you for taking over from Betty0610,

On your request I have:

  • Checked the firmware of the printer and it is the latest version. (20160926)
  • Given the printer a hard reset (I don’t have a surge protector), without success.
  • Used the diagnostic tool in the link (HP Print and Scan doctor 5.1) also without success. The problem still persists.

It makes actually sense to me, as the PDF file is formed in the HP Scan software.

I have use the online PDF tool to check the PDFs it creates.
https://www.pdf-online.com/osa/repair.aspx you can select the analyze only option and you find that there are mulple erros in the pdf files created bij the HP Scan software. (See the list below.)

Unless you have other things I can try, I think it make sense to consult an software engineer of the HP Scan software?

What do you think?

Trying to make your products better,

Best regards,
Otto Jager

@Otto_Jager,

Thanks for the update,

After reviewing your post thoroughly, I would suggest the next option would to do a root level uninstall and then reinstall the printer drivers.

Could you provide me with the printer model number? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

In the meantime, you try these steps here:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer(Please select the name of the printer) entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here (Please enter the product number and then select the correct Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the printer software).
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Hi Jeet_Singh,

Thank you for swift reply.

I have a Color Laserjet Pro MFP M176n.

As I already mentioned in my first post I already reinstalled the software on both laptop’s, without success. But as I don’t see the harm in doing it again. I have tried it according to your script. Unfortunately also without success.

@Otto_Jager,

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

As I understand you have tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers and unfortunately nothing has helped in resolving this issue.

In this scenario, I would suggest here is to uninstall the printer drivers and then create a new user account and once done, restart the computer.

Try to create a new local user and then try to install the printer. Follow the steps here to create a local account on your PC: Click here

Now, login to the new account and then try to install the printer and check.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
