Welcome to the HP Community.

HP Mobile Fax has been in an extended Trial period for a while - this "free for all" might be coming to an end, though I cannot find anything definitive that says one way or the other.

That said,  The Terms of Service contract document currently provided on the Mobile Fax website appears say what it's always said - After the trial period ends, you will be provided the opportunity to purchase a subscription plan (requires a valid credit card).  Not selecting a plan and not providing the required credit card to pay for that plan will result in the Mobile Fax service terminating without you having to do anything else.

Thanks so much.  So HP will let me know how much a subscription to mobile fax costs as the free trial period ends and not before.  Also I read the part where it says the free trial period can be terminated at any time.   When companies keep secrets like prices from their customers it makes me think they don't want me to know the costs for a reason so I think I'll pass even though it's possible I won't find a better deal elsewhere.  I don't buy pigs in a poke.

You are welcome.

The Mobile Fax has never cost anything - a long time now (over a year?)  it has been free for the using.

It makes sense - at least to me - that HP does not post plan costs before the cost structure and plans are ready.

That said, sure - pass on the option and / or the printer.

If you move into an OfficeJet Pro model series, these printers include an onboard fax - printer fax might still require a land line.  Check the specs for any brand or model, of course, to know what is required.

Regardless of printer model or brand, there are free and eFax paid options available - a search will likely provide options for your region.

Good Luck.

After thinking about it I've changed my mind, sometimes buying a pig in a poke works out.  If the mobile fax charges turn out to be more than I'm willing to pay there are other ways to send a fax especially with as seldom as I need to fax.  The ad says two years of free mobile fax and that may be long enough since I'm 72 now.  If I'm lucky enough to still need to send a fax after the two years I'll work it out then.  Regardless, paying $17 a month for something like eFax isn't going to happen but paying an extra hundred bucks or so for a machine that'll probably send a couple of free faxes a year doesn't make sense either.

Thanks again, you've been very helpful.  Sometimes talking something thru with someone knowledgeable is all that's needed.
