Scanning is broken in Windows 11. Have you tried running the HP Print and Scan Doctor? You can download it from HP's website. It will probably find and fix a problem with WIA but it may find other problems, too. If it fixes those, then scanning should work. It may fail again after you reboot but you can fix it easily by restarting the WIA service.

The following worked for my very old HP Officejet 5610 when using the Windows Fax and Scan app in Windows 11.
1. First install the imaging driver. I used the imaging driver from Windows Update. To do this turn on the printer. Open device manager and locate the Imaging Devices driver and uninstall it. Go to windows update and check for updates. Then, in windows update, go to advanced options > optional updates and install the imaging driver.
2. Turn the printer off. Run services.msc as administrator. Locate and right click Windows Image Aquisition (WIA). Select properties. Stop the service, then set the startup type to Manual. Click Apply and OK. Restart the computer then turn on the printer and open Windows Fax and Scan.
This worked for me. Your results may vary. This seems to be a Windows 11 issue rather than an HP printer issue.

I am having the same problem with everyone else here. Can someone pls tell me how to reinstall old drivers, if this works?
After Windows 11 was installed, HP OfficeJet 5255 won't scan and I've spent six hours so far with troubleshooting, installing and uninstalling drivers and software, rebooting, entering codes, reading websites and blogs, watching YouTubes, and resolving that I will never buy an HP printer again. I have lost precious hours of my extremely busy life while following useless instructions to dead ends.
