Hello. Why is HP Smart now requiring a sign in to scan? This started about a week ago. This does not make the app easier to use as it's extra steps. I also have a concern about privacy. HP does not need to know when or what I scan. Thanks.

Yes, you may have to sign in.
The application has always worked better when you are signed into your HP Connected / HP Smart account.
If the application now requires it, well, there you go.
HP makes decisions on all HP software and application management.
Yeah, but what about my personal scan data?
HP does not care what you scan and does not keep track of the documents and photos you scan.
The printer is not keeping track of images or documents nor does the printer secretly store this data.
What data is harvested?
What does it mean?
Where do I get information?
Open the HP Smart for Windows application
Click the Settings wheel > Privacy Settings
Read about Data Collection - and - If and Where available, make choices.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured that's the way it would be requiring sign in.
I've been pretty happy with HP's products overall but I wish HP would stop changing the Smart app. I could make a list of problems I've had with it over past couple of years. Oh, well.
Thanks again. Consider this closed.

You are welcome.
Sometimes the answer is that we have to adjust.
I agree that somethings change and we cannot always recognize the need for it.
