Hi, 

 

This afternoon I was scanning a 400 paged document with the ADF ( Auto Document Feeder), and when I reached 200 pages, the ADF decided to fail on me. 

 

There was no longer a chime when i loaded the tray nor was there a prompt on the screen. I have already cleaned the rollers etc rather well. 

 

Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot this?

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. If you do not get a chime when papers are loaded onto the document feeder, it could be a possible hardware issue. To isolate the issue, let us try these steps:

 

Which application do you use to scan from your MAC?

Are you able to make standalone copies from the document feeder?

Try using Apple Image Capture or HP Smart app to scan and check if the issue persists.

 

HP Easy Scan is not yet compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality. I suggest using HP Smart app or Apple Image capture to scan from your MAC. Kindly refer to this document to know how.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

 

Update the printer firmware

Try scanning from the document feeder again.

I'm scanning the document to my USB drive, the document feeder doesnt seem to detect any paper i place in so i can't automatically scan

I'm afraid this seems like a hardware issue with the Automatic document feeder. If you have tried the steps mentioned in this document and the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
