9135e series.

1.  I can't copy legal size without scanning the page(s) and printing through HP Smart.

2.  Even though the quiet mode is off, there is no way that I can find to get the machine to play a tone when a print job is

complete or when pages are loaded in the document feeder.

3.  When trying to add this printer to my account, it will not accept the serial number.  I have checked the back of the printer

and inside the door and the number is the same both places.  I have triple checked when I entered the number.  it tells                me to enter a valid serial number.

 4.  I don't know how to talk to a technician.  If I keep this printer, I will want to purchase a service contract.  It looks like I

could possibly do that, but not without being able to enter the correct serial number.

Hi @jp949

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

1. Copying Legal-Size Documents:

Unfortunately, the 9135e series may not support direct legal-size copying without using the HP Smart app. This is a printer limitation.

To work around this, you can scan the legal-size document using the HP Smart app and then print it. Alternatively, ensure that the paper size settings in the app or printer menu are set to "Legal" for both the input and output.

2. Sound Notifications for Print Jobs:

The printer itself doesn't have built-in sound notifications for print jobs.

However, you can enable notifications on your connected device (e.g., computer or smartphone) through the HP Smart app or your operating system's notification settings.

If you're looking for a tone directly from the printer, this feature might not be available on the 9135e series.

3. To check the serial number:

Please share the serial number of your printer in private message as it is confidential data.

Thanks Hawks_Eye.  I returned the 9135e yesterday to HP.  I have ordered the 9730e wide format to take care of my issue.  I had already figured out that HP Smart was the only way I would have been able to make legal copies.  Unfortunately, that was not going to work for me.  Your overall response was excellent.  I will be referring to this community board often in the future.  Thanks again JP949.

Hello, I'm just realizing the limitations of printing and scanning on legal size paper. Can you please explain what you mean by using the hp app to use legal paper?  Am i Using the app from inside the printer, or inside my pc, or inside my ipad?  I think I need directions.  Thanks.  Also is there a way to shrink a legal size document to print or scan to down to a letter size? I think my old hp printer used to know how to do this without going thru an external app but the printer ink got too expensive especially when they started to not work because they were defective brand new.  That's when I bought this printer but haven't used it much yet.  Thanks.

Hi @tlblackwell,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

It means you’ll be using the HP Smart app (free from HP) on your PC, iPad, or smartphone, not directly on the printer screen.

What you can do in the HP Smart app:

Set the paper size to Legal (8.5 x 14")

Scan using the ADF or scanner glass

Copy and print to Legal size paper

Shrink or scale to Letter size

How to Scan or Copy Legal Paper using HP Smart App (PC or iPad)

On PC or Mac:

Open HP Smart

Click "Scan" → Select Scanner > Document Feeder (ADF)

Set paper size to Legal

Scan → Save as PDF or JPEG

To Print the scan:

Click "Print"

Choose the Legal-sized file

Select Paper Size > Legal

Tap Print

Shrink Legal Document to Letter Size

Go to Scan > scan your Legal-size document

Click Print

Choose Paper Size = Letter

Under More Settings, select:

Fit to Page or Scale to Fit

This automatically shrinks it to Letter size

I hope this helps.
