Hi @gonzalito,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the scanner of your HP DeskJet Plus 4140 All-In-One Printer is not responding and the HP Print and Scan Doctor (P&S Doctor) is unable to identify the issue, here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Restart Devices

  • Turn off your printer, computer, and router.
  • Unplug the printer for 1-2 minutes.
  • Restart your computer and router, then plug in and turn on the printer.

Check Connections

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer (via USB or Wi-Fi).
  • If you're using Wi-Fi, confirm the printer is connected to the correct network.

Verify Printer Status

  • Open the HP Smart app or your computer's Devices and Printers settings to confirm the printer is online and detected.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for your printer.
  • Uninstall the current printer software:
    • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program, find the HP software, and uninstall it.
    • On macOS: Delete the printer from System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Reinstall the software and set up the printer again.

Test Scanning with HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app on your device.
  • Select the scan option and see if the scanner responds.
    • If it does not, check for error messages.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Update the printer firmware:
    • Use the HP Smart app or download updates from the HP website.

Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset:
    • Press and hold the Power button and Cancel button for about 10 seconds or until the printer restarts.
    • Reconfigure the printer after the reset.

Try an Alternate Scanner Software

  • Use another scanning tool, such as:
    • Windows: Windows Scan app (available in Microsoft Store).
    • macOS: Preview or Image Capture apps.
    • Third-party software like VueScan.

Test the Scanner Functionality

  • Test the scanner using a different device to rule out device-specific issues.
  • If connected via USB, try a different cable and USB port.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
