Hi @Honeybun12 ,

1. Check Local Network Security Permission (The Quick Fix)

macOS updates frequently reset the permission that allows the HP software to talk to your printer over the network.

  1. Go to System Settings (or System Preferences).

  2. Click Privacy & Security.

  3. Scroll down to Local Network.

  4. Look for any HP-related apps or services (like HP Device Monitor, HP Smart, HP Utility, or something like HP Scanner 3).

  5. Make sure the switch next to any of these entries is toggled ON (green).

  6. Restart your Mac and try scanning again using Image Capture or the HP app.

If that doesn't work, proceed to the next step.

2. Reset the Printing System and Re-add with AirPrint

This is the most effective way to clear out any corrupted drivers or settings that the macOS update left behind.

A. Reset the System

  1. Go to System Settings (or System Preferences).

  2. Click Printers & Scanners.

  3. Right-click (or Control + Click) in the list of printers on the left side.

  4. Select "Reset Printing System..."

  5. You will need to enter your password. This removes all printers and scanners, so be prepared to re-add any others you have.

  6. Restart your computer.

B. Re-add the Printer/Scanner

  1. Go back to System Settings --> Printers & Scanners.

  2. Click the (Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax) button.

  3. Select your HP M148fdw from the list. It should show up under Default or Bonjour.

  4. Crucially: Before you click "Add," look for the "Use" or "Type" drop-down menu near the bottom.

  5. Change the selection to AirPrint (or Secure AirPrint). Avoid using the "HP Printer Driver" if AirPrint is available, as the generic Apple AirPrint driver is usually more stable with scanning across macOS updates.

  6. Click Add.

Test the scanner now using Apple's built-in Image Capture app (search for it in Spotlight), or the HP Smart app if you prefer.
