Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

HP Scan for my HP Officejet 5740 . Using the document feeder, it only scans in as JPGs. The setting on the first page says Document, but when it scans in multiple pages, nothing is scanned and it says save as JPG.

This used to work!

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

To enable additional scan features with supported printers, install HP scan software to scan from the printer, duplex scan, and create an editable scan file.

  • HP scan software (Windows): Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads to install the full feature driver and software. After completing the printer setup, open the scanning software.

    • Windows: Search Windows for your printer model name and number to open HP Printer Assistant. On the Scan tab, click Scan a Document or Photo to open HP Scan.

Depending on your printer, this scanning software supports the following features:

    • Scanning from the printer control panel to the computer or to an email account

    • Two-sided (duplex) scanning using the automatic document feeder

    • Creating an editable scan file using optical character recognition software

  • Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer to scan.

  • Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app . If it is not listed, go to Windows Scan (in English) to install it.

And, also refer to the Article: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2275901-2074064-16 By the end of the article you will be able to isolate the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

This did not work... I think my document feeder must be broken... it used to work. It doesn't work with HPScan or HPSmart via the document feeder. It works fine on the glass.

Is there a way to fix the document feeder?

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.

This seems like hardware related issue with the printer. As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now.

I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
