HP Envy 4520

For the life of me, I cannot find any specific info that states the COST of using the mobile fax service!  It appears to be a closely guarded state secret. Does anyone know where I can find the actual price structure? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

If you are considering signing up for an online fax service, it might be helpful to know that HP makes two series of all-in-one printer/ scanners that are set up to link users directly to an eFax account.

HP offers this with several printers: four models in the Envy All-In-One series, and four models in the Photosmart All-In-One series. Both printer series offer printing, copying, scanning, and of course, faxing. The models range in price from $99 to $225.

eFax is an online fax service offered by j2 Global Communications, Inc., not by HP – but you can register for eFax from the product control panel of these eight models of HP printers. When you do, you get a free 20 incoming or 20 outgoing fax pages per month.

To get faxing capability beyond that, you can sign up for an eFax plan. The provider offers two plans, Plus and Pro. Plus includes 150 inbound and 150 outbound pages per month for $16.95 per month, or $14.13 with the annual discount. The Pro plan includes 200 inbound and 200 outbound pages each month for $19.95 per month, or $16.63 with the annual plan.

It is possible to log in to eFax and send the 20 free ingoing and outbound faxes that come as part of the HP printer; however, most users seem to prefer doing it from the printer. It is worth noting that some customers have had trouble with eFax charging them for an upgrade when they were only using the free version through HP. Based on user forums, HP worked with customers to resolve the issue.

The service works through a wireless network, so to get started you must have a wireless Internet connection. You then enable Web Services and ePrint on the printer touchscreen, a process that varies between different models. Once the printer connects with the eFax server, your assigned eFax number appears on the screen. It then connects you with an eFax home screen, from which you can send faxes. If you already have an eFax account, you can also link that to the printer.

It is possible to set up email notifications about incoming faxes; to do so, you need to use the printer’s control panel to set up a network configuration.

HP also offers a video detailing the setup.

Hi,

Do you refer to the HP Mobile Fax feature of the HP Smart app?

It has no fee at this time, therefore no prices are listed

Spoiler

The service is free for a limited time and limited number of pages. HP has the right to disable the service at any time for any reason for any one or all users. HP has the right to delete accounts and all related files, records and access. Please review the terms of service by clicking here

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I'm referring to the mobile fax feature in the HP Smart app.  Is there a different mobile fax option/app from HP that DOES have a clear fee structure in place? Because I would *seriously* be interested in that. Unfortunately, the "spoiler" info is identical to the only info I could find already... which doesn't say anything about costs now or after signing up =/ So it's free *at this moment* but could cost something (no indication how little or how much) *at any time* AFTER you sign up? And/or your mobile fax account could be deleted at any time for no reason? Sorry, that's WAY too vague, too much uncertainty and risk to sign up for. Especially with my debit card on file.  I'll stick with eFax for now. At least I know the costs up front. Thank you again for your reply.

A fee plan is clearly discussed. Maybe after the trial you get plan options

Thank you for your reply. I too have read that. Unfortunately there are still no actual numbers in that info, the same as all other info I've read or been sent. (And I've still not heard back from HP after emailing them this question... two months ago.) I find  it odd that HP won't make public a  clear price structure BEFORE a customer signs up for the mobile fax service. The clear price structure of the HP Instant Ink service is precisely why I signed up for it. I saw it was a reasonable price range for the service offered. No mystery about minimal & maximum costs. I would also find it odd if anyone signed up for any service or product—and provide their credit card— without knowing the price before doing so. Again, thanks for your reply.

I have received ZERO info so far. It is IMPOSSIBLE to reach customer service. The system just keeps taking you in loops!

There is absolutely NO information regarding the mobile fax service in my HP dashboard. Where else would I find information?

I share your frustration.  I see no need to set up a trial of the service until I know what a "plan" will cost at the end of the trial period.   Has the potential to be a wonderful product, but I'm not in the habit nor do I have the time to chase carrots.  Give me the facts and I'll decide whether or not I want to try the service.

@Chelleygirl, you say a fee plan is "clearly discussed?" Can you please tell me where you saw that fee plan? Provide a link to it? Because I have not seen that anywhere and would LOVE to see it! Thanks!
