How do I Scan to a .DOCX ?

I'm offered the ability to Scan to a .PDF but I neither have, nor do I wish to acquire, the Adobe editor/converter - is there a simple route to a Word document ? I tried a Word-conversion but got a garbled result.

Scan to Word is not included in the standard printer software provided for the printer.

Free tools to do this might work - these, along with purchased options to complete the task, are available - search for options / applications / software using your favorite browser and search engine.
