Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Are you using HP Smart Mobile (on a mobile phone) or HP Smart on your desktop to scan?

Regardless of which platform (PC or phone),  after scanning, tap/click on the top right hand corner on "Edit",

select "Contrast and Brightness (use the slider) to adjust the darkness.

Hope that helps!

Many thanks for the reply.

I am doing a direct copy from the flatbed scanner.

Step 1

I place the document on copy/scan plate and put the lid down on top

Step 2

I press the black and white copy button (or colour if needed).

I am looking for where the settings are on here to adjust the darkness level. On my other HP there is a cog symbol for settings and you adjust the darkness with a slide bar.

Thx again

Matt

Hi @MattD76

This a basic, no frills printer.  It does not have the features mentioned like the Officjet printers.

So, it's only able to copy whatever is placed onto the scanner with no adjustments.  One way to get around it is to scan and adjust,m then print - couple more steps.

Thanks.

Hi

Maybe I am being stupid or perhaps I'm asking the wrong thing. Either that or perhaps I'm doing this the wrong way.

The printer is in the bedroom so if I want to do a copy I have to go into the room, place the document on the scanner, and press the copy button.

I have the HP app on my phone but don't use that much. If anyone can explain how to use the app better to do this or other stuff great.

I can adjust the darkness level via my laptop's own scanning software but that means going up and down stairs 4 times every time I want to copy something.

Regardless of wether the printer is advanced or basic, I expect to be able to produce a clear decent copy by some method.

Printing wise, it is brilliant.

It was purchased to replace my other printer which is now playing up a bit and which is past warranty period. Are there any others of this size that are worth looking at?

In the end I can still p/copy on the other printer if needed.

Hi @MattD76

Here's a workaround - using the HP Smart app to adjust the darkness when scanning.
