HP Officejet 6500 E710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'd like to create a desktop icon to launch the scanner dialog. I am not a fan of the Windows tile approach.

Under Windows 8.1, there was a desktop icon that let me connect to my Officejet 6500 unit and enable the scan to computer option. That went away with the Windows 10 upgrade.

I ran the Print and Scan Doctor and it resolved problems. When I went to test scanning, it popped up the familiar dialog where I could choose the various settings.

HP Scan Dialog.JPGIt worked perfectly. But after closing the Doctor, I could not find any place to launch the dialog again, outside of the Doctor.

I downloaded and installed the HP Scan and Capture app. It works fine but I would rather not leave the desktop in order to launch it, nor do I use it enough to warrent placing it on the taskbar.

Is there any way to create a desktop icon for the Scan and Capture application

or

is there a way to create an icon to launch the scan dialog that Print and Scan Doctor uses?

I'd prefer the latter one.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

There is a way to create the Scan Shortcut on your desktop. Try these steps :

1. Open a File Explorer

2.  C: > Program Files (x86)

3.  Program Files (x86)  >  HP

4.  HP > HP Officejet 6500

5. HP Officejet 6500 > Bin

6. Bin  > HP Scan

7. Right-Click on the HP Scan and "Create Shortcut"

You will get a prompt that "Windows can't create a shortcut here.  Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?    Select "Yes".

Hope that helps!

I was hoping it would be as simple as finding the right .exe and creating a shortcut,
but I didn't know where to strt looking.

Many thanks - works beautifully.
