Sometime in the past 24 hours the  ability to scan to computer using HP Scan and Capture has been disabled. The error message on the computer is "GENERAL FAILURE."  The embedded web server shows "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer."  This printer is wirelessly connected to 2 computers here in our home.  I do not recall setting this functionalty up when I installed the printer over a year ago.

Hi,

Do you have the HP Officejet Pro 9020 Basic Device Software installed on your PC?

 

Please click Start > Settings (gear icon) > Apps and type HP into the programs search bar - can you see the specific option listed within the results?

Yes, that program is installed...version 49.7.4556.20308.

So out of the blue, the scanning function starts working.  I tried several times each day for the past week+, and suddenly this morning, the scanning function works like it did the day we installed the printer.  No new programs were installed, and nothing out of the ordinary occurred during the week.  I love self-healing problems, but I hate not being able to explain why they healed themselves.  As far as I am concerned, this is a closed issue...with no resolution.
