How do I insert pauses when faxing from the front panel of the HP ENVY 7640? I tried # and * but the number dialed  quick without pausing and fax failed.

From the HP web site...

If you were trying to fax to an external number, be sure to include any required access code or numbers
prior to entering the number. You might also need to add a pause in the number to prevent the
printer from dialing too fast; to add a pause, press * repeatedly until a dash (-) appears on the display.

I  tried also to fax by scanning it to pdf and Printing from Fax with the computer Acrobat dialog.

The only way I could make it pause after the access code was to type the access code in the prefix and the rest of the number with the international code etc in the other box. It seemed to work this time except that the fax on the other end was probably off. But I would still like to know if the hyphen actually pauses the dialing for a few seconds.

I actually figured it out: Start the fax before dialing the number and then when the dial tone comes press the access number and then wait for the request of the destination number which is then entered. When it connects - then it starts scanning the fax and sending it. Any failure at this point is from the other end of the line.
