I have looked at previous similar questions.  I can only find SCAN option not Scan to PDF and therefore cannot see "Advance options"

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I Understand you need help in reduction/compression of PDF file size from scanned document - HP Photo smart 7510

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you try reducing the resolution or DPI settings to obtain a compressed image?

While you respond to that, here're a few things you need to do:

  1. In the menu bar, click the Apple icon ().

  2. Click System Preferences.

  3. Click Print & Fax or Print & Scan.

  4. Click the name of your printer, and then click Open Print Queue.

  5. Click Printer Setup or Settings, click Utility, and then click Open Printer Utility.

  6. Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer. The HP Scan dialog also opens.

  7. Click Edit Scan Tasks.

  8. Select a shortcut under Scan to Computer Shortcuts, and then click Edit.

  9. Click Show Details.

    The following scan settings display:

    • Presets: Photos, Documents with Text, Custom

    • Output Type: PDF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF

    • Scan To allows you to specify the location where you want to save the file.

    • Type: Document, Picture.

      • Source is an option to scan either from the scanner glass or ADF.

Source allows for Flatbed or Document Feeder options.

    • Orientation: Portrait, Landscape

    • Mode: Grayscale, Color

    • Resolution: 300, 600, 1200 ppi

    • Crop to: US Letter, 4x6 inches (10x15 cm), Legal

  10. Click the Presets menu, and then click Save As.

  11. Type a name for your new preset, and then click OK. Your new preset is saved, and can be selected from within HP Scan.

  12. Select one of the following items before closing preferences:

    • Click Cancel if you do not want to save the settings for the printer control panel shortcut you selected.

    • Click OK if you do want to save the settings for the printer control panel shortcut you selected.

  13. Close the Preferences window.

For more details on creating a custom preset: Click here

(Look under: Change the printer control panel scan settings, or create a custom preset)

Let me know if those steps worked for you,

If they did, that's awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck
