How do I restore HP OfficeJet 3830 ability to scan to pdf format

How do I restore HP OfficeJet 3830 ability to scan to pdf format. It used to work before but doesn't work now. All the documents are saved in tif format and printed as a picture. Went to scan properties but it doesn't allow me to change the document format to pdf.

• Have you tried to scan using another application like HP scan and capture?

Meanwhile, you can try scanning from the printer display:

• On the printer control panel, touch the Scan icon ().

• Touch Computer to scan to the connected computer.

• Touch the name of the computer that you want to save the scan to.

• Touch Scan Shortcut, and then select a shortcut that corresponds to the document or picture you are scanning.

• Save as PDF: Use this setting to scan text documents that will not be editable. Use the Save as Editable Text (OCR) to scan text that you can edit.

• Touch Start Scan. The printer scans the document , and then saves it to the destination specified in the settings.

This does save a file as a pdf, but it is not user friendly to try to scan and save anything. Looks like I will be getting a different scanner.

There is no short cut on my printer and the link provided no longer works.  Any other suggestions? Frustrated
