I'm trying to scan documents that are in color and I want them to scan in color but they are coming across as Black & white.  How do I change this?

Hi @Vic102063,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to scan in color using your HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer, follow these steps:

Using HP Smart (Windows or macOS): HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer.
  2. Select your printer from the dashboard.
  3. Click Scan.
  4. In the Scan window, under Scan Settings, check the Color option. You should see options like Color or Black & White.
  5. Ensure Color is selected.
  6. You can also adjust other settings such as resolution if needed.
  7. Click Scan to start scanning your document in color.

Using Windows Fax and Scan:

  1. Open Windows Fax and Scan by searching for it in the Start menu.
  2. Click New Scan.
  3. In the Scan Settings window, ensure the Color setting is selected. It may appear as Color (24-bit) or similar.
  4. Select other settings if needed (e.g., resolution, file type).
  5. Click Scan to begin scanning in color.

Using the Printer’s Control Panel:

  1. On the printer's control panel, select the Scan option.
  2. Choose Scan to Computer or a similar option based on your setup.
  3. If given the option, select Color under scan settings.

By selecting Color in the scan settings, your documents should scan in full color. If the problem persists, check for any software or driver updates for the HP printer or HP Smart app.
