Hi @Mitch311,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Setting up your HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer for faxing involves a few steps. Please follow the guidelines below to configure the fax settings:

Connect the Phone Line:

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to an active telephone line. Use the phone cord that came with the printer to connect the "1-LINE" port on the back of the printer to a wall jack.

Check for Dial Tone:

  • Make sure there is a dial tone on the connected phone line. If there is no dial tone, check the phone line connection and try a different wall jack.

Configure Fax Settings:

On the printer control panel, press the "Setup" button (gear icon).

Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the "Fax Setup" or "Fax Settings" menu.

Look for options such as "Fax Setup Wizard" or similar. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up basic fax settings, including your country and fax number.

Set Fax Header (Optional):

  • You may have the option to set a fax header, which includes your name and fax number. This information is printed at the top of each faxed page. Navigate to the fax settings menu to find this option.

Receive Mode:

  • Make sure the printer is set to the correct receive mode. Depending on your preferences, you can set the printer to "Auto Answer," where it will automatically pick up incoming faxes, or "Manual Answer," where you need to manually answer each call.

Test Fax Setup:

  • After configuring the basic settings, you may want to test the fax setup. You can use the built-in fax test option or send a test fax to another fax machine to ensure everything is working correctly.

Additional Settings:

  • Explore additional fax settings such as resolution, contrast, and other options based on your preferences.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
