My printer will not scan to my computer.  I have no problems with printing, it just won't scan.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you set up scanning on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-in-One Printer, especially since printing works but scanning does not:

 

Install the HP Smart App (if not already installed)

The HP Smart app is essential for scanning and managing your printer.

  • Download and install it from here - HP Smart.
  • Open the app and add your printer if it’s not already listed.

Enable Scan to Computer

Once your printer is connected:

  • Open HP Smart.
  • Click on Scan.
  • Choose Scan from Printer or Scan from Computer.
  • If prompted, enable "Scan to Computer" in the settings.

Use the HP Smart App to Scan

  • Open HP Smart.
  • Click Scan.
  • Choose your scan type (Document or Photo).
  • Adjust settings like resolution, color, and file type.
  • Click Scan, then Save or Share the scanned file.

(Optional) Scan from the Printer Control Panel

You can also scan directly from the printer:

  • On the printer touchscreen, tap Scan.
  • Choose Computer.
  • Select your computer from the list.
  • Choose scan settings and press Start Scan.

⚠️ If your computer doesn’t appear, ensure:

  • HP Smart is running on your PC.
  • Both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • "Scan to Computer" is enabled in HP Smart.
