How do you set scan scale size?

I want to scan some photos at 200% for digital backup purposes off the flatbed scanner portion on the printer. In the HP scan software I see no option to tell the scanner to scan at a larger percentage. Is this option elsewhere or is the software not capable of enlarging scans? I also see no DPI settings either.

If you have not done so, download and install the Full Feature Software for the printer.

There are always more options available when you use scan programs on the computer -- scanning from the printer front panel provides fewer choices.

Scan using software on the computer:

You can use the HP Scan feature included with the Full Feature Software or you can choose from other great scan options / programs.  (See below.)  Scan resolution, DPI, scan area all affect the outcome.

One really nice feature of the HP Extended Scan  program is the ability to scan a group of photos placed on the printer glass into separate photo files.  You can also grab photos out of a document and save the individual images.

Help, suggestions, and examples:

Install Full Feature Software – Printer

Operating System recently migrated to Windows 10 and / or to re-install the printer software:

1. If using a USB cable to connect the printer and computer, disconnect the cable
2. Create a Restore Point >
3. Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC / Foxit)
4. This works best if the computer's Windows (10) Updates are current - check if you are unsure
5. Update your HP Drivers (or other vendor computer) - printer software likes updated Drivers
6. Open Printer Website Driver Support Page >
7. Download a fresh copy of the Full Feature software >
8. Remove existing Printer Software from Programs and Features / Apps and Features / All Apps / Devices and Printers >
9. Shut down the computer > boot, and log in >
10. Install Full Feature Software (find in your Downloads folder > Double-Click on the file) >
11. Restart the computer and log in to finish the installation

Thanks for the reply. I'm already using the full featured software on a PC. After looking at it again and seeing no % option to scale up, I realized I can just bump up the resolution to compensate for the 200% or larger that I want the images to be. The only thing that sucks about that is then I'd have to open in Photoshop and enlarge the photos by 200% and reduce the DPI by half on waaaay too many photos I want to scan. Rather be able to just scan all the images at 200% @ 300DPI so i didn't have to go into another program and double the dimentions of the photo.

That HP Extend looks interesting though...will check that out to see the options there. Would be nice to use software by another company that supports the HP and give the darn scale option I want.

What does HP Scan Extended add? I just installed and I don't see any new options from when I used HP Scan about 20 mins ago.

HP Extended Scan is a stand alone program -- it does not add features to HP Scan.  It is true that both programs are from HP; there is a lot of overlap in the available option list.

I will take a look at my documents; it is perhaps time for an update to better explain the options and limitations.

The enlarge feature is likely available in Copy -- but that is not scan, of course.

Depending on the version of Photoshop you have, consider using the "save for web content" (? not sure about the wording) feature to reduce the file size.  I have used this for years on my web site and the results are still fine for hi-def screen viewing later.  This does not help with your original desire to enlarge the images by 200%.

Hi,

Sorry for jumping in, the simple answer is no option to enlarge to 200%. You can scan normal size then use ANY images/photos editor to enlarge, reduce output images.

I agree; photo / imaging software is the best option to handle image file / visual size edits.

Depending on the size of the original image, even Word can save a copy of an image that is bigger / smaller than the original.

Thanks for the info, guys. Seems weird to not include such a basic feature. I have hundreds of photos to scan so probably just buy a cheap dedicated scanner that lets me do the scaling. Too much to deal with scanning then enlarging in photoshop. If they were all the same size it wouldn't be so bad because I could just do a batch resize. But these are pics of all different sizes from the 80's.
