Hello, I wanted to scan two sides of my ID on the same page and I've been looking for solutions online but all the guides I found told me to change my Advanced Scan presets to ID. I looked for the option is not available in my HP Smart app, the only 2 options I got are Document and Photo:

So here is my question, how can I scan two sides of the ID with HP Smart or better yet, how can I modify/add new Presets to my app.

Thank you.

Hi @SilvaLau,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

  • Do you mean if you can scan and save 2 sides of a PDF file as a single document?
  • Are you using the HP Smart App or the HP Printer software application to scan the documents?

Let's try these:

Using the HP Software.

  • Save multiple pages or photos into one PDF file using HP Scan.

Search Windows for HP, and then select your printer. HP Printer Assistant opens.

Click Scan, and then click Scan a Document or Photo. HP Scan opens.

In HP Scan, select the Save as PDF or Document to File shortcut.

Select 'Scan'. Once the document is scanned, Click the plus button or in the HP Scan preview window to scan the next item.

Flip the page on the scanner glass to scan the other side of the document.

Repeat this step until all pages or photos are scanned, and then click Save.

Select PDF in the Save as type menu.

Change the file name and the folder you want to save the 'Scan To', and then click 'Save'.

Using HP Smart App

From the HP Smart app home screen, click the Scan tile. The Scan window opens.

From the Scan window, change settings such as document type (document or photo), page size, output type, source, resolution, and compression to match the scan job, and then click Scan. A preview of the scan displays.

  • From the Result window, click on add at the top left corner.
  • Flip the page on the scanner glass to scan the other side of the document.
  • Scan the document.
  • Repeat this step until all pages or photos are scanned, and then click Save.

Let me know if this helps.

    • No, I mean if I can scan two sides of an identity card in a single page.
  • Are you using the HP Smart App or the HP Printer software application to scan the documents?
    • I am using HP Smart App

The problem right now is that, I cannot find an option to do that in the app.

Hi @SilvaLau,

If you are not finding that option, either your printer does not have that capability or the printer needs to be checked.

This might require one on one interaction to fix the issue

For the record, I was able to scan both sides of my ID on a single page by pressing the ID copy button on the printer physically, it's just that the option is not available on HP Smart app, which is a bit inconvenient.

In the HP Smart app, the Advanced Scan ID Card preset combines both sides of an ID card automatically into a single file.

  • Open the HP Smart app, and then click Scan.
  • LOCATION OF SCAN (COMPUTER, MOBILE DEVICE)
  • Clicking Scan in the HP Smart app
  • From the Scan window, select Scanner Glass or Camera as the Source, and then select ID Card as the Advance Preset (computers) or from the scan-type carousel (mobile devices).
  • ID CARD SETTINGS IN THE HP SMART APP (COMPUTER, MOBILE DEVICE)
  • Advanced Scan ID Card scan settings in the HP Smart app
  • Place the front of the ID card on the scanner glass or a flat surface.
  • Click Scan (computers) or tap the Capture icon (mobile devices).
  • Repeat these steps to scan the back of the card.
  • Make any desired changes to the scans, and then click Next to combine the scans into a single file.
  • Example of scanning the front and back of an ID Card and the results in Preview.
  • On the Preview screen, click Save or Share/Save, and then click File Type.
  • Choose how you want to save the file, such as Basic PDF or Image (*.jpg).
  • Change the file name and any other settings, and then share or save the scan job when you are done.

That's the thing, that's what I've been asking since the start, I cannot find the advance preset for ID Card on HP Smart app.

I can print both sides of an ID card in a single page manually, but the option is not available on my app, so how can I enable the option?

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

Opinion

I believe the Advanced Scan options might be something available (for example) on an HP+ enabled printer.

Neither you nor I have an HP+ printer -- our Scan options in the App do not include "Advanced" scan choices.

OR

Perhaps "Advanced" is something available in HP Smart Mobile regardless of printer model.

I've never seen the Advanced Presets option.

Your Solution >> Scan the ID from the printer manually.

The proposed solution would likely work if we had a printer that allowed us access to the "fancy" Advanced options.

I might be wildly wrong about this, of course.
