HP Smart is not your best choice.

At this moment, at this writing, HP Smart needs a fix for a bug that creates inflated PDF documents / file sizes.

HP is working on the solution and will release a new version of HP Smart in the  Microsoft Store when it is ready.

HP Smart is not supported in Windows 7 - it won't provide the results you expect.

In fact, I cannot imagine how you got it installed since the application is from the  Microsoft Store

Regardless...

What to do?

Your printer's Full Feature Software includes HP Scan.

HP Scan is much better suited to this task - it can separate pages into documents.

Impossible to be precise without having any of the details (printer model, for example),

The following is generally true for recent printer models.

If the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is not installed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features, then do install the printer software.

Where is the printer software?

  • Some printers now offer (and use) the HP Smart for Windows as the main printing application.  HP Smart might be listed on the Software and Drivers web page as “Get the App” (Microsoft Store).
  • When available, both HP Smart and the Full Feature / Solution Software can be installed on the computer.

Where is Full Feature Software (includes HP Scan)?

  • When / If available, install your printer software using HP Easy Start
    • Home Page - HP Easy Start >> Open Category Software and Drivers > Topic: Software-Utility > Download and save the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
    • When asked, choose to install the Full Driver

OR

  • Open your printer Home Page > Support Website   >> Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Full Feature Software might have been moved to subcategory Software-Utility and / or might now be called  Print and Scan Driver and Accessories
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

=======================================================

After the printer software is fully installed, two icons will have been added to the Desktop > one for the Printer Assistant and one for HP Scan.

The Basics

Open HP Scan

Select to Scan PDF / documents

Set the main menu options

Open the More > sub-menu

Select to have the pages sent to separate documents.

Click OK to leave the sub-menu

When ready, Click Scan

Example - HP Scan - Main Menu

If available, this option offers more control

Example - HP Scan > Document / PDF > More > Document

9025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_More_Document_29025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_More_Document_2
