When I first set up the printer, there was a double sided original option and the pages were automatically organized. After a reset, that option is no longer there, necessitating manual reorganizing. How can I get that option back?

Here's how you can re-enable or configure the feature to scan double-sided originals efficiently:

 

1. Check Scanner Settings

  • Open the HP Smart app or HP Scan software on your computer.
  • Select Scan and choose your printer.
  • Look for an option like Two-Sided (Manual) or Duplex Scanning under the scanning preferences or settings.

If the option is missing, ensure the software is fully updated by reinstalling the latest drivers and apps from the HP Support page.

 

2. Enable Two-Sided Scanning with Manual Reorganization

Follow these steps to scan two-sided originals:

  • Place the first side of the pages into the scanner or ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
  • Scan the first side of the document.
  • When prompted, flip the originals or load the second side of the pages.
  • Use the software’s Reorganize Pages or Arrange Pages feature to reorder the scanned pages correctly.

 

3. Restore Previous Configuration

If the option for two-sided scanning was visible before a reset:

  • Update Firmware: Make sure the printer firmware is up to date by downloading it from the HP Support website.
  • Reset to Defaults: The reset may have changed some settings. Go to the printer's Setup menu on the control panel, navigate to Service, and select Restore Defaults.
  • Reconfigure in the Software:
    • Open the HP Smart or HP Scan software.
    • Access Advanced Settings or Preferences.
    • Check if manual two-sided scanning can be enabled from there.

 

4. Enable Automatic Document Organization

  • If you previously used a feature that automatically organized pages:
    • Check the Advanced Scan Options in the HP software for a feature like Auto Reorder Pages or Auto Arrange.
    • This feature may need to be toggled back on after the reset.

I have reset defaults and looked for a way to turn on the auto collating function but have not found it.
