Hi @RANZ16,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank 520 All-in-One Printer is not photocopying on A4 papers and only works with letter size (short paper), there are a few things you can check and try to resolve this issue:
Paper Size Settings: Ensure that the paper size setting on the printer matches the paper loaded in the tray. Here’s how you can check and adjust it:
- Load A4 paper into the input tray.
- On the printer control panel, navigate to the settings or preferences menu.
- Look for paper size settings and select A4 (210 x 297 mm) or a similar option.
Paper Guides: Make sure the paper guides in the input tray are adjusted correctly to fit the A4 paper size. Improperly adjusted paper guides can cause the printer to not recognize the paper properly.
Printer Driver Settings: Sometimes, the issue might be with the printer driver settings on your computer. Follow these steps:
- Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
- Go to the printer settings or preferences.
- Check the paper size settings and ensure it is set to A4.
Printer Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with paper sizes. Update the firmware on an HP printer
Reset Printer Settings: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the printer to its factory default settings. This will reset all settings, including paper size preferences, so make sure to set it up again afterward.

I hope this helps.
