I am unable to scan to email on both Printer HP ENVY 7640 and HP Officejet 5740. I get SERVER CONNE

For 2 weeks I have been getting an error message on both my HP Printers Envy 7640 and Officejet 5740 when I try to scan to Email

I get a  SERVER CONNECTION ERROR. I've owned these printers for more than 5 years.   WHY NOW?

These printers do not support SMTP Scan Profiles -- the Scan to Email option, if it is available on the printer control panel, is likely through an "Apps" setting or button on the printer.

The server connection error might be due to your email provider's security requirements when using "third party apps".  Sending a scan to an email address from the printer qualifies as a third party application.

The security requirements are not new for some email providers.  G-Mail, for example, was the first to adopt and require 2-Step verification for email created by and sent by an app or printer.

IF this is the reason your Scan to Email is failing, the fix is still the same:

• Log into your email provider's website
• Go to the provider's email security settings
• Switch ON 2-Step Verification
• Create an App Password to be used with your scan to email app on the printer
• Make note of the app password -
• Set up Scan to Email on the printer
• Enter the app password in place of your regular email password
