HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I can send faxes, as desired, BUT…

(as far as I can tell) can only receive faxes from simple (analog?) machines;

faxes sent from corp/secure (digital? server-based?) senders are not accepted, AND…

do not return delivery failure messages to sender. My caller ID shows that calls from the bank were received, whenever we tried the transfer.

• A year ago, I was able to receive the same fax (a 1-pg account verification form), from the same sender (my bank), on the same MFP, connected to the same HP computer

• Meanwhile, I've continued to manage upgrades, and am running Windows 10 Pro 21H2 (x64)

• I avoided upgrading HP Printer/MFP software, because I was concerned about a problem like what I'm now seeing, but after reaching the "last version" of Win10, decided to try it.
→ I was happy to find that I could still send & receive faxes, & now also print to fax, avoiding hardcopies, in some instances (which hadn't worked, previously).

NOW, THO, when I need a document, that my bank will only provide via paper (7-10 day anticipated delivery) or by fax. We tried several times, with, & without my watching the device, and hitting "Send Fax" when the phone picked up, which has allowed some problem faxes to arrive, in the past. Not this time.
I NOTED that the bank agent was submitting the outbound fax to a remote/server(?) queue, & expecting to receive an error response, if the fax didn't go thru.

I ran HP's Support Assistant, and was told that there was a newer printer driver, so I installed it, including rebooting the computer – but still had the same problem. The Support Assistant still advises that there's a "new" driver, though I have the latest installed (HP_Color_LJ_Pro_MFP_M277-full-solution-15345). I then tried completely uninstalling the printer software package, running a system cleanup, & shutting down the computer (not just restarting), then reinstalled, from scratch (tho I discovered that some settings, like my fax phone #, had been retained).

I then retested sending a doc by fax, without printing hardcopy, + receiving a fax, from a friend, with a "traditional" fax device – both of which seem fine. When, however, I contacted my bank, & had them retry sending their doc, it's still a no-go.

For The Record:

• I was able to receive last year's version of this doc, before upgrading the HP MFP M277dw package

• I should have plenty of system resources [32GB RAM, Intel® Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors]

• Although not highly recommended, I have only ever had a VoIP phone line available for this MFP.

Any solutions, recommendations, suggestions, &/or questions for me, would be greatly appreciated.

For receiving a fax you need to have a phone line, printer and power. The problem is in the phone line or in the printer, nothing to do with the computer/driver.

In the fax settings on the printer try to disable ECM and try to lower fax speed to medium and try.
