I can't seem to scan any document on my HP 3700

path and the scan light turns on.

What else can go wrong?

If you have not done so,

Check whether the printer can make a simple copy.

Scan and Copy use the same hardware -- if neither work, the source of the problem might be hardware.

The software / application you are using influences the process.

What are you using?  What are you scanning (original paper size / type)?

The limitations of the printer can impact the results -- for example, there is a difference between "cannot" and "sort-of works but looks wrong".

• Scan type: Single-page document feeder
• Scan speeds vary according to the complexity of the document

  note:

  Scanning might take longer with documents or photos longer than 8.5 inches.

• Twain-compliant software interface (Windows only)
• Resolution: 600 x 600 pixels per inch (ppi) optical
• Color: 24-bit color, 8-bit grayscale (256 levels of gray)
• Maximum scan size: 216 x 355 mm (8.5 x 14.0 inches)
