Why can't I scan after refusing to continue for ink subscription?

Correct, you must have HP ink.  Note that this is a user to user forum and I am just the messenger of this bad news.

 

Non HP ink can be used on this list of HP printers.

When / after the subscription is terminated by your or by HP, the Subscription / Instant Ink cartridges can no longer be used.  This is normal -- ink is only supplied (when needed) with an active subscription.

 

The printer cannot pass its self checks if there is not proper (and functional) ink installed.

 

What?  Printer is a printer that can also scan.  Printer must be functional for scan to be used.

 

What to do?

If you have not done so...

 

Remove all the Instant Ink cartridges from the printer.

Purchase a set of HP ink cartridges and install the new cartridges in the printer.

 

Ideally, the cartridges should be returned to HP.

HP provides Instant Ink cartridge return service without charge.
