Microsoft Windows 11

Hello! I cannot get my HP photosmart c4280 All-in-One to scan. It keeps coming up in the box as "USB Not connected" even though I believe it is. I have tried unplugging and reinstalling the USB but this error message keeps coming up.

Hi @BrianSchmidt7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the connection between your HP Photosmart C4280 and the computer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check the USB Connection:

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. Try using a different USB port on your computer to rule out a faulty port.
  • If possible, try using a different USB cable to see if the cable might be faulty.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Power off both the printer and your computer. Wait for about 30 seconds before turning them back on.
  • This can sometimes resolve minor connectivity issues.

Reinstall the Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the current printer driver software from your computer.
  • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your HP Photosmart C4280.
  • During installation, make sure you select the option to include scanning functionality.

Check Device Manager (for Windows):

  • Open Device Manager on your computer (right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager").
  • Look under Imaging Devices or Universal Serial Bus Controllers to see if your printer is listed. If it shows a yellow exclamation mark, right-click on it and select "Update Driver" or "Uninstall Device," then reconnect the printer.

Check the Printer's Scan Function:

  • On the printer's control panel, ensure it's set to scan via USB (rather than over a network, if that's an option).
  • Try scanning directly from the printer to see if the issue is with the software or the printer's hardware.

Try Using the HP Scan Software:

  • If you're using the standard scan function, try using the HP Scan software or HP Smart application to initiate the scan instead.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
