We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have always had option to save scan as editable text, then to docx but this has disappeared from options. Tried downloading OCR software as recommended- this now gives initial option to save as editable text but only allows for pdf , png, tif and jpeg file formats

Hi @Jlo61

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it must feel to lose the option you relied on for saving scans directly as editable text in DOCX format. You’ve already taken the initiative to try OCR software, which shows great persistence.

Let’s go through steps that can help restore or work around this functionality:

Step 1: Use HP App Scan Settings

  1. Open the HP App on your Windows computer.
  2. Select your printer or scanner from the device list.
  3. Go to Scan > Scan Settings.
  4. Under File Type, check if Searchable PDF or Editable Text (OCR) is available.
    • If you select Searchable PDF, you can later open it in Microsoft Word and save as DOCX.

Step 2: Update HP App

  • Make sure you are running the latest version of the HP App.
  • Open the Microsoft Store, go to Library, and click Get updates.
  • Updates often restore missing options or add improved OCR functionality.

Step 3: Use Microsoft Word for Conversion

  1. If OCR only allows saving as PDF, open the scanned PDF in Microsoft Word.
  2. Word will automatically convert the text into an editable document.
  3. Save the file as .docx.
    • This gives you the same editable text workflow you had before.

Step 4: Confirm OCR Language Settings

  1. In the HP App, go to Scan Settings > Advanced Settings.
  2. Ensure the OCR language matches the language of the document you are scanning.
  3. Incorrect language settings can sometimes limit output formats.

These steps should help you regain the ability to work with editable text, even if the direct DOCX option is not currently visible.
