HP Officejet 5258 all-in-one printer.  Scanning function worked fine until recently, then it would only scan to a jpeg and now it won't scan at all.  What can I do to fix this?

Hi @LBARBOUR,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 5258 all-in-one printer is experiencing issues with scanning, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue. Here are some suggestions.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • If you are using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off both your printer and computer.
  • Wait for a few minutes, then turn them back on.
  • Check if the scanning issue persists.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure that there are no conflicting software or applications that might be causing issues with the scanning function.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the printer software from your computer and then reinstall it. This can often resolve software-related issues.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer settings through the control panel or the HP software on your computer.
  • Reset the printer settings to default and see if it resolves the scanning problem.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix printing and scanning problems.

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve functionality issues.

Check for Paper Jams or Hardware Issues:

  • Ensure that there are no paper jams or hardware issues affecting the scanning process. Make sure the scanner glass is clean and free from smudges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
