Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips. Thank you for posting your query. I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

To save a scanned document as an editable text file, install the full feature printer driver. That will include Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software converts the letters in a graphic file to editable text (TST or RTF files).

OCR software is required to use this feature.

Open HP Printer Assistant on the computer, and then look for a Save as Editable Text (OCR) shortcut.

  • If the shortcut displays, select it to scan the item as a document that you can edit.

For scan settings, please refer to the image below:

Hi,

Be sure to have the latest HP Full Feature Software installed, follow the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility by selecting Fix Scanning to ensure its functionality:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

If verifying the HP Scan software and driver functionality and successfully performing a test scan, any remaining issue with a licensed IRIS OCR relies on the 3rd party software and you should only contact your software provider

You may try installing the  IRIS OCR Pro 14 version provided with your HP printer for free and check for any difference with it:

https://support.irislink.com/en-us/article/734-readiris-pro-14-for-hp-download-and-activation

If you experience any issues with the HP Scan Software other than IRIS OCR Pro 16 please let me know.

If you experience issues with the paid software only please contact IRIS support, you do entitle for support on a paid product from its provider:
