I've used HP printers in our home and business consistently for over 25 years. And I have *always, including now, only used HP's driver set and mostly the downloaded full set when installing the devices. Starting with Windows 11 I initially installed our two printers using Add Device and HP drivers present with the OS.
But with Win11 after I added the printers, scanning was not clearly an option. I used to be able to right click HP scan under Start Programs and get the scan shortcut on the desktop or even better download HP scan extended that provided an initial interface for Both printers to scan.
Now no longer. If I'm wrong and there is a reasonable way to use a native HP scan app I would gladly welcome the information. HP app provides no useful scan option that I could find. Clicking on the Scanning button on the screen amongst HP's ink advertising resulted in the ridiculous result: Cannot find a printer be sure to turn it on or connect to the network... understanding of course that HP already installed the **bleep** printers on the network.
Thanks,
Mark

I repeated attempted to install scan using the full, correct printer download and failed. I downloaded print/scan doctor and that service hung attempting to install scan.
I've arranged for a tech remote session this afternoon.
In my opinion HP has somehow managed to bungle in their effort to created a Consistently, Transparent and viable Win11 experience that bears any resemblance to my past succesfful experiences installing under Win10, 8, 2000, XP...

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Support Community.
Can you download and install the HP FULL Solution Software for your operating system:
https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-8600-plus-e-all-in-one-p...
Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.
Hope that helps.

We have three new Win11 computers all experiencing scanning and/or printing problems to both the 8710 and 8740. I will download the software to EACH computer But I will start by Only installing the full set to the Most problematic of the three.
Should I first uninstall ANY reference to HP on this first computer so that I'm starting off with a clean slate for the installation?

Hi @markg2
Yes, do uninstall before reinstalling the downloaded software.
This might be a good reference:
Hope that helps!

One other consideration before I install the update.
Neither printer's ROM has been updated in at least 2 years. Should this be done before the driver package is installed? If so, how do I force and update on the printers?

The firmware is unlikely to affect whether you can scan. If you are using 3rd party cartridges I would recommend against updating as this will likely stop your current cartridges from working.

I believe the video you referenced and I played was produced using Win10. Win11/HP does not, as far as I've been to determine, provide the user an opportunity to Uninstall HP associated printers, drivers, etc.
I'm completely familiar with uninstalling HP printers and have done so many times in the past... using Win10 and below.
I'm attaching a screenshot of Control Panel. You will see there is No instance of HP.
I'm also attaching a screenshot of the uninstall page Settings/Apps/Uninstall. Again, you will see there is No instance of HP.
The Only way I've found that Win11/HP allows something close to uninstall is the REMOVE button associated with the printer on Settings/Bluetooth & Devices/Printername. I've removed the printer and added it back previously to no avail.
Next????

This reply is similar to my last... Just to be sure you all understand that I CANNOT proceed with installing the full package UNTIL I get some direction on uninstalling HP products in Windows ***11 per screenshots my previous reply.
I have yet to try uninstalling via Device Manager or ??? not wanting to involve a kludge without approval.

Sorry to keep extending this thread but I *really want to get the uninstall/install correct.
I was about to start the process on one of the computers until I realized that greenturtle's download link is for the Officejet Pro **8600. Our printers are 8710 and 8740. Shouldn't I be downloading the Full webpack for an 8710 and an 8740?
