Hi @Artefacts,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Sorry to hear that the ID Scan option is missing from your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4278 All-in-One Printer. Here are the accurate support steps to restore or access it:
Step 1: Use the HP Smart App
The ID Scan feature is typically available through the HP Smart App, not directly on the printer’s control panel.
- Download or update the HP Smart App: HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | undefined
- Open the app and add your printer if not already been added.
- Go to Scan > Scanner Settings and look for ID Card Scan or Multi-Page PDF options.
If the feature is missing, it may have been removed in a recent app update or is region-specific.
Step 2: Use Webscan via Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Find your printer’s IP address:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
- Enter the IP address in a web browser to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Go to the Scan tab and use Webscan to scan documents.
Step 3: Reinstall or Update Printer Software
- Uninstall the current HP Smart App and printer drivers.
- Reinstall the latest version from: 🔗 HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4278 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
Step 4: Check for Firmware Updates
- Open the HP Smart App.
- Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.
- Install any available firmware updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
