Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer
Ubuntu LTS

I am using network-connected HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One printer with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and hplip-3.20.3.

Both scanning and copying have stopped working.  I see this on the printer's screen:

PXL_20240127_133956473.jpgIOREF: 99999
AlertID: 8048 [scanWarning]
SMS specification not found

Both scanning and copying initiated from the printer console result in blank output.  Attempting to scan from Linux also fails, with an obscure error.  Given the displayed error on the printer screen, and the behavior in standalone mode, I don't think the problems have anything to do with Ubuntu or hplip.

Printing works just fine.

Googling for this error finds LOTS of people with the same problem and ZERO solutions.  The only input from HP representatives in this "community" references a Windows-specific tool, which (obviously) isn't helpful to me and apparently wasn't helpful to anyone else either, because I have yet to see anyone responding, "Hey, thanks, that fixed my problem!"

Anyone got a clue?

FWIW, I have the identical printer connected to a different Linux computer running the same Ubuntu and hplip version, and I have not seen the same problem there.  Yet.
