The last two days we can't receive any faxes. They register on our land line phone as a voice mail. We do not have voice mail or an answering machine connected. This line is used only for faxes or caller that don't have our cell number. When we pick up the phone while the fax is plugged into the phone jack there is loud static on the line. When we unplug the fax from the telephone line, our phone once again has a dial tone. I am getting very ANGRY as we have had this fax for three years and has always worked.
HELP !

@Barb69
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
- Ensure the HP drivers and software are installed.
- Ensure a phone line is attached to the “1-Line” port on the printer.
- Open the document you wish to send using any application.
- Choose the option to print, usually located under “File” > “Print” or.
- Switch the printer to the “Fax – HP Officejet Pro 8610 option.
And, also run a fax test report to determine the faxing status on the printer and whether or not it is configured correctly to send and receive faxes.
-
Load U.S. Letter or A4-sized plain white paper into the tray.
-
On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow (
). -
Touch Setup (
). -
Touch Tools, and then touch Run Fax Test. The printer displays the status of the test and then prints a report.
-
Review the report.
-
If the results of the fax test are All Pass, skip to the solution to configure the fax for sending and receiving..
-
If the fax test indicates that it does not detect a phone line or a dial tone, continue to the next solution to check the fax connections.
-
Alternatively, you can go through the steps suggested in the support document for - Cannot Send or Receive Faxes
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

What do you mean by "they register as a voice mail"? If you don't have an answering machine, and you don't have voicemail provided by your phone company, then the call will just ring until the caller hangs up or the phone company disconnects the call.
Also, have you tested to see if you can send faxes?
