HP OfficeJet Pro Wideformat 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My wide format printer is not allowing my project to proceed.  I want to copy directly from the copier to paper in the paper tray and it is not working.    I have a photo album that is 13" x 16" and I want to:  a)  reduce the size by 85% to print on 11" x14" paper, so I set 'custom' at 85%;  b)  I want to use 11" x 14" paper in the tray, but the screen for paper size does not appear on the tiny monitor.  It shows a screen where you enlarge standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper to A3 11" x 17", but no reduction;  c) when I go to print with the large paper in the drawer, the printer monitor shows 8.5 x 11" for tray 1 and it will not let me change that, and when I press print it spits the paper out and the screen reads "Wrong   paper size"  and does not print;  d)  the printer table accepts my page and when it comes to printing it I want it to go landscape, and it prints portrait.  Where on the tiny monitor can you change it to landscape?  e)  Is there a way that I can put the old scrapbook page on the platen and then go to my computer and tell it what I want done and actually print it?  How do I access the program on my computer to do that?    This a great printer and I love the results, but very frustrating to use.  Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • 1. Tray 2 supports only plain paper A4 or Letter-size and larger. Do not load paper while the printer is printing.
  • Make sure the printer is turned on.
  • 2. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Setup).
  • 3. Scroll and touch Tray and Paper Management.
  • 4. Select either Default Tray or Tray Lock, and then select the appropriate option and you can also scan the image trying to copy and customize it and print it from the computer maximum print area is 11.7 x17.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
